How to Fit Your SBT Marine Anchor Chain Sock
Share
Protect your boat's deck, gelcoat, and anchor roller from scratches, clanking, and wear.
What You'll Need
- SBT Marine Anchor Chain Sock
- A guide string or swivel (recommended for easier installation)
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1: Prepare your chain
Lay your anchor chain out straight and ensure it's clean and free of debris before fitting the sock.
Step 2: Attach your guide string or swivel
Thread a guide string through the chain sock, or attach it to your chain's swivel. This is the key to a smooth, frustration-free installation.
Step 3: PUSH — don't pull
This is the most important tip: always push the chain sock onto the chain from behind, rather than pulling it from the front.
⚠️ Why does this matter? Pulling the sock stretches and tightens the fabric, causing it to lock onto the chain links and making installation extremely difficult. Pushing allows the braid to naturally expand and glide effortlessly over each link.
Step 4: Work it along the chain
Continue pushing the sock along the chain, working section by section until the entire chain is covered.
Step 5: Check the fit
Once fitted, ensure the sock sits evenly along the chain with no bunching or gaps. It should move naturally with the chain through your anchor roller.
Why Use an Anchor Chain Sock?
- ✅ Protects your deck and gelcoat from scratches
- ✅ Eliminates annoying clanking noise
- ✅ Reduces wear on your anchor roller
- ✅ Easy to fit with the right technique
